SeaNet Yachts FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions : Fractional Yacht Ownership

How does fractional ownership with SeaNet work?

Each owner purchases a share of a luxury yacht and receives a proportional number of usage days annually. SeaNet handles all operations, crew, maintenance, and scheduling—so you enjoy the benefits of ownership without the burdens of full responsibility.

What’s the difference between a Local Program and a Travel Program?

SeaNet offers two distinct ownership experiences:

  • Local Program:

Designed for convenient, consistent access. Vessels are docked year-round in specific cruising areas such as Southern California, the Northeast, and South Florida, depending on seasonal demand and owner interest. Owners receive five consecutive days per month, with the option to exchange or schedule single-day use for holidays and special events. Additional local markets may be added—please contact our sales team for more information.

  • Travel Program:

Ideal for owners who want to cruise in premier destinations around the world. These yachts follow a seasonal itinerary, including the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Bahamas, Sea of Cortez, the Northeast, and West Coast USA.
Usage is generally booked in 10-day blocks. The number of days depends on your share size and varies with the vessel’s itinerary, repositioning time, and maintenance schedule.

What are the core financial commitments?

There are three primary components:

  1. Share Purchase – A one-time cost to acquire your equity.
  2. Annual Fixed Operating Costs – Your pro-rata share of expenses like crew, insurance, dockage, and maintenance. These are billed quarterly and reconciled annually.
  3. Variable Trip Costs – Billed after each trip based on actual fuel, provisions, port fees, crew gratuities, and any onboard requests.
How is depreciation handled?

Depreciation varies by yacht make, model, and condition—typically 5–10% annually, with the most significant decline occurring in the first 3–5 years. Whatever the number, you are only exposed to a fraction of the value. SeaNet’s yachts are professionally managed and maintained to the highest standard, with ongoing preventative servicing, routine maintenance, and curated upgrades. The consistent use and regular care help maintain long-term resale value and set our fleet apart from most privately owned vessels.

Can I own the share through an LLC or trust?

Yes. Each yacht is structured through a dedicated LLC, and you may hold your membership interest personally or through an LLC, trust, or family office. This structure supports flexibility in ownership, estate planning, and liability management. SeaNet can refer you to trusted legal and tax professionals for guidance.

What happens if a co-owner defaults?

In the rare event that a co-owner defaults, SeaNet has a structured and well-established process in place to protect the vessel and the interests of the remaining owners. This scenario has occurred only a few times in over two decades of operation, thanks to SeaNet’s comprehensive due diligence process. All prospective co-owners are carefully vetted to ensure they are financially accredited and aligned with the fiduciary responsibilities required of shared yacht ownership. If a default does occur, the owner’s usage rights are suspended and their share is placed on the market. During this period, the program structure assigns the defaulting owner’s operating expenses to the remaining ownership group, who may then utilize the available time associated with that share.

Co-owners are also given the opportunity to acquire the defaulting share at a discounted rate, which serves as a financial penalty to the defaulting party. If a resale takes place later, any out-of-pocket costs covered by the group are reimbursed from the proceeds of the sale.

What is my exit if I choose to leave the program?

You can resell your share at any time. SeaNet will assist with marketing and facilitate the entire process—from private outreach to listing and brokerage. A standard 10% resale fee typically applies.

How long does it take to sell a share?

Resale timing depends on the yacht, location, time of year, and market conditions. That said, shares typically sell quickly through our MLS system and network of 10,000+ registered contacts who have expressed interest in our fractional ownership model. The program is especially appealing to new entrants who may not have the time to justify full yacht ownership. Low cost of entry and full-service management of the vessel, crew, and logistics make for a compelling resale offering.

Can I let friends or family use my time?

Absolutely—think of it as your own boat. You may assign your usage to friends or family with prior notice. You will be responsible for your guests, and all guests are expected to respect SeaNet’s usage guidelines to maintain consistency and quality for all owners.

Do you charter out unused time?

We generally do not charter unused time. The structure of shared ownership already offsets traditional ownership costs, eliminating the need for charter income. Charter guests also introduce greater wear and tear, while our owners maintain a high level of care and pride in each vessel.

SeaNet Program & Operations : What does SeaNet manage?

SeaNet provides comprehensive yacht management, including:

  • Concierge and itinerary planning
  • Crew hiring and payroll
  • Preventative and scheduled maintenance
  • Scheduling and usage logistics
  • Accounting and reporting
  • Insurance, compliance, and dockage

Everything is taken care of—owners simply step aboard and enjoy. The sweet spot of yacht ownership.

How are yacht itineraries determined?

Owners select seasonal cruising regions generally three years in advance (e.g., Mediterranean, Caribbean) with support from SeaNet and the crew. Prior to each trip, our concierge team works with you and your crew to tailor the experience—balancing time on anchor, marina stays, on-water activities, and curated onshore adventures.

How are usage dates scheduled?

Each year, SeaNet conducts a primary scheduling rotation using a draft-style system with rotating priority. Owners typically receive one major holiday per year and an equal portion of each season. Additional dates and spontaneous bookings are available year-round, based on yacht location and availability.

How does scheduling work?

SeaNet uses a structured rotation system to ensure fair and transparent scheduling across all co-owners. Each year, owners submit their preferred date picks for the upcoming season.

The process begins with Owner 1 receiving their first-choice date. If there are no conflicts, that date is confirmed and the process moves to Owner 2. If Owner 2’s first pick conflicts with a date already assigned, we move to their second choice, and continue down the line.

To ensure long-term fairness, the order of priority rotates annually. For example, if the order in Year 1 is Owner 1, 2, 3, 4, it becomes Owner 2, 3, 4, 1 in Year 2, and so on.

All owners receive an equal share of each season and holidays as desired. Once the first round is complete, the rotation starts again from the top, reviewing each owner’s next preferred dates in the same manner. Owners will typically have three to four reservations in place and then pick up additional reservations once a reservation has been completed, allowing for spontaneous use of their vessel and a balanced ownership experience.

Can I book short trips or spontaneous getaways?

Yes. Like most people plan vacations in advance, owners will pre-book a few dates through the scheduling process and then pick up additional dates throughout the year as their schedule allows. Owners can enjoy a mixture of long weekend trips or short stays, with five-day blocks guaranteed monthly in local programs. Single-day access is also available for special events such as the Airshow or Holiday Boat Parade.

Your concierge can assist with last-minute availability for spontaneous getaways, depending on the yacht’s location and schedule.

What if the yacht needs repairs during my trip?

If an issue arises, SeaNet quickly coordinates repairs and offers support—whether by rescheduling or providing access to another vessel in the fleet. Our proactive service model and emergency reserves are designed to reduce disruptions.

Can I use other yachts in the SeaNet fleet?

Yes. Through our Exchange Program, you can exchange time on your yacht for another in the SeaNet fleet—perfect for exploring new cruising regions without the expense of moving your vessel.

Who pays for fixed costs on unsold shares?

Owners remain responsible for their portion of fixed costs until their share is sold. In new builds or temporarily held inventory, SeaNet covers its share until transferred to a new owner.

When are owners billed?

Fixed costs are billed quarterly, with an annual reconciliation based on actual expenses. Variable trip expenses are billed post-trip, with receipts and reports conveniently available via the SeaNet App.

How are relocation costs handled?

When a yacht is seasonally relocated, SeaNet provides advance cost estimates for owner approval. Once approved, costs are shared among the ownership group and invoiced accordingly.

How is the yacht relocated?

For transatlantic crossings, yachts are shipped via professional carrier. For regional repositioning (e.g., Florida to the Bahamas), the yacht is moved by crew on her own bottom. All relocations are scheduled outside of owner usage periods.

Onboard Experience : Can I bring my cat, dog, bird, or… snake?

We understand pets are part of the family. However, due to the shared ownership model and premium onboard finishes, we generally recommend against bringing pets. That said, special requests may be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

What’s included onboard for water activities?

Each yacht is stocked with a carefully curated selection of water toys and accessories. While inventory varies by vessel and cruising region, typical amenities include:

  • Paddleboards & inflatables
  • Tenders (e.g., Williams, Skipper, etc.)
  • Jet skis, Seabobs, Sublue scooters
  • Snorkeling & dive gear
  • E-foils, fishing equipment, floating lounges

Our goal is to ensure a memorable experience, whether you’re anchoring off a secluded island or entertaining guests in a lively marina.
